What markets do you attend regularly?

I go to the Dallas Design Center, the Dallas World Trade Center, the D & D Building in New York, and the Atlanta Design Center.

Do you have a favorite source for buying your rugs?

I particularly like the Rug Company, Global Views, Patterson Flynn and Martin, Interior Resources, and The Renaissance Collection.

What feature in the rug is most important to you?

Color and design are always the most important. In bedrooms and children’s rooms the feel and texture of the rug also becomes a deciding factor.

How often do you purchase a custom rug and why?

In about 90% of the homes that I design at least one or more rooms will have a custom rug. The rug lays the foundation for the room—bringing all the colors together in order to create a cohesive look. The more unique the color scheme, the more unique the rug needs to be. Often custom is the only way to achieve that.

Are there any design rules you specifically like to follow or specifically like to break?

I like to place Oriental rugs in cutting edge spaces or contemporary rugs in traditional settings.

How important is being green to you?

I like using natural fibers for sustainability and comfort, as well as fire retardation.
