For six summers, Rug News andDesign has been walking the Las Vegas summer market. Back then, we took pictures of about 40 exhibitors’ rugs. This summer, Thomas Gensinger covered 48. The change in 6 years is mostly in an increased diversity of fibers and the complexity of textures. Six years ago, indoor/outdoor rugs were still a novelty; today even the old line traditional hand knotted purveyors should have at least one.
In 2011 Karastan showed of a 2 ply nylon rug from the Knightsen Collection. This year, they asked Thomas to photograph The Design Serene Denim From The Kismet Collectionwith a the matte finish of its New Zealand wool contrasted with the silky sheen of the SmartStrand fiber, creating a riot of textures, hand-feel, and surface variations.
In 2011, Dynamic Rugs showed Symphony collection hand tufted dense-pile, hand-carved polyester in a soft contemporary design. In 2017, 9192-919 From The Bali Collection is machine made in Turkey of 100% soft polypropylene. They are available in 5 standard sizes from 2’x3′ up to 7’10″x10’10
In 2011,The Rizzy Avant Garde collection of New Zealand wool and viscose; hand-spun wool/viscose, hand-spun semi-worsted rug. In 2017, MO004B From The Mod Collection has a high-low design which gives texture to these beautifully colored rugs, hand tufted in India of 80% Wool and 20% viscose.
In 2011, Feizy featured a updated classic design with their Tracy Porter line of rugs. This wool rug has a casual appeal, making it a great addition to any home. In 2017, Feizy showed The Silver/Blue In The Adria Collection using a whimsical, eccentric palette with bright hearted and quirky colors. Made in India of handknotted wool and viscose, they’re available in 3 standard sizes from 7’9″x9’9″ to 9’6″x13’6″, with custom sizes also available upon request.
